About The Society

LGBT stands for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans, and we organise social events that encourage LGBT students to interact, make friends, have fun and stay safe at university. It is a social and support group for any students who do not align themselves with a heteronormative identity, although anyone can join!
As one of the most socially active societies in the Union, we actually have an event every weekday of term! Every day, upstairs in the Union Building we have Coffee Hour from 12 to 2, it's the perfect place to come and chill out, eat your lunch, read the paper, and have a bit of a natter over free tea and coffee, made for you by our lovely committee.
Not content with a daily dose of socialising, we also organize a huge number of events, from regular club nights, to film screening, workshops, debates and even trips to other cities. Every year we also host the LGBT Ball, an annual evening of entertainment, food and drink for our society members - check out our Facebook group for photos from last years Ball!
It's not all fun and games though; we know that University can be a stressful time, and as a Social and Welfare society, we are here to help whenever we can. If you need someone to talk to about LBGT related matters or otherwise, the committee, our Welfare officers in particular, and society as a whole are more than happy to listen and advise as best we can.
Membership costs just £5, and our membership cards can be used to get you great discounts at various shops and gay bars in Leeds!
